How To Be a Safe Driver
Driving is a big responsibility, and no matter how long you’ve been driving, you want to ensure that you’re safe on the road. Not following some basic safety rules could mean that you hurt yourself and those around you. Here are some ways you can be a safe driver.
Avoid Distractions
Distracted drivers are one of the biggest causes of car accidents. When you’re distracted, you change lanes without looking at your blind spot, accidentally swerve out of your lane and into another one, or go faster than you realize you are.
One of the best ways to stay alert is to put your phone down and not touch it again until you reach your destination. If you must rely on a map to get where you’re going, then install a hands-free phone holder, so you don’t have to continually look down at your phone to see where you’re supposed to go.
Follow Changes in Traffic
When roadwork is done on the roads, you’ll find that the lanes might shift and that cones or people are placed in the lanes to do traffic control Washington. When you see the signs for construction or road work, slow down. If you’re going too fast, you might not see that the lines for the lanes have changed or that the flagger is telling you to stop. Additionally, the changes in traffic could mean that one lane has a sharp drop off, which could cause you to swerve out of control if you ignore it and change lanes too quickly.
Use Your Blinkers
Your blinkers are how you communicate with the other drivers around you. If you don’t turn your signal on, other people won’t know that you are hoping to change lanes or turn. Because of that, they won’t know to slow down or let you in, which could end up causing a problem.
