How to Dry Clean Your Clothes
There are two options when it comes to dry cleaning. You can purchase a clothes dryer from a home improvement store, where you can browse through several different models and search for one that includes convenient features. Alternatively, you can drop off your clothes at a dry cleaners that provides pick-up and delivery services. You can also use a dry cleaning communication app to select the cleaners closest to your home. Whichever option you choose, you should know how to dry your own clothes.
Check Your Clothing Tags
Some thick clothing, especially those made of silk and wool, aren’t meant to be put into the washer. Clothes with specific fabrics often come with a tag marking them as meant only for dry cleaning. You shouldn’t dry clean certain fabrics such as fur and leather that can’t be washed either. Clothing with sown embroidery should be dried rather than washed. Washing them can untangle the sown threads from the clothing fabric. You don’t necessarily need a dryer for some clothes, as a steam iron and board can effectively kill harmful bacteria stuck inside fabrics and remove creases if used properly.
Remove Stains from Clothes
Before inserting your clothes in the dryer, you should completely remove stains with a liquid remover. If you skip this step, don’t be surprised if you find it impossible to remove the dark stain from your favorite pair of jeans, meaning the stain will stay on them forever. Molecules from the stain could also spread into your other clothes if you fail to use a stain remover. Don’t soak your shirt with the stain cleaner, since it could shrink the fabric. Instead, you should use only a small amount before spraying the stained area.
Place Clothes in the Dryer
Place a few items inside a dry cleaning bag. You’ll then want to insert a thin sheet that emits heat onto the fabric, providing your clothes with a clean scent. Don’t cram all the items at once, as doing so will prevent thorough cleaning. When placing your clothes inside the dryer, you want to place the settings on low-to-medium heat and set it to a maximum of thirty minutes. You don’t want to overdo the process by throwing in the bag and setting it for an extra hour.
Put Away Your Clothes
Once you finish drying, separate the white articles from the colored ones. Either fold shirts and tuck them away inside your drawer or hang them with a hangar inside a closet space.
Although using a cleaning service provides a convenience to those who can’t use a dryer at home, dry cleaning your clothes remains an important life skill. Each time you place clothes into the dryer, it involves a simple four-step process that’s easy to remember.
