Maintaining Your Home Systems
Keeping the operating parts of your home in working saves you money as well as prevents you from having to call a repairman when you need them the most. Most systems can get a longer life from performing basic maintenance. Here are a few that you should pay close attention to.
Hot Water Heater
When your water heater batavia breaks, it can cause quite a bit of damage as well as leave you showering with cold water. Check the pressure valve on the tank a few times a year and clean away any corrosion or build up that has occurred. Doing so will lengthen the life of your heater.
Heating and Air
Take a look at your furnace filters to see if they are dirty. If they are, change them for a new one, especially if someone in your family has allergies. Do this every month to ensure good air flow through your furnace and central air systems.
Clean the Kitchen
Freshen up your garbage disposal by cleaning out anything that might be stuck. You can make ice cubes out of vinegar then grind them up in the disposal to get rid of odors. Pull the range of your stove apart and let them soak in a bucket of half degreaser and half hot water. This is also a great time to change out the batteries in your smoke detectors. This simple task can save your family’s life if there is ever a fire.
Look For Problems
Walk through your basement and look for signs of dampness or anything else that looks unusual. A drop or two of water might indicate a bigger problem such as a leaking pipe or a crack in your roof. Check the outside of your home for broken siding, cracked cement, or issues with your windows. Take measures to repair them before they grow into a bigger problem.
